What services do you offer?

Aquareef Aquarium Design has been in business since 1994. We provide an aquarium maintenance and aquarium consultation service. We are a complete aquarium service company, supplying quality marine aquarium supplies, marine livestock corals, invertebrates and live rock. Our services include making house calls, delivering fish food and supplies and setup of marine aquarium environments.

Why would I need a maintenance service?

An aquarium maintenance service is used by clients who wish to have a professional care for and maintain their aquariums. This is no different than a client hiring a professional landscaper or housecleaning service. A maintenance service will help keep your aquarium in healthy condition.

Regular maintenance is the key to a successful, healthy, thriving ecosystem that is both pleasing to the viewer and provides the best living conditions to the livestock. Aquarium systems that are not maintained properly on a regular basis are systems that are usually headed for disaster and are not successful, often resulting in unnecessary fish and livestock death.

At Aquareef, we believe that when you decide to have a living ecosystem in your home or business, as the care-givers, we are responsible for providing the best living conditions to the animals we have chosen to live in that system. The fish, coral, invertebrates and animals (for the most part taken from their wild ocean environments), deserve the utmost respect and care we can give them.

What is involved in a maintenance service?

Our aquarium maintenance service goal is to provide the best living conditions for the health of your ecosystem on a regular basis. This means a regularly planned maintenance schedule for your aquarium.

At Aquareef, each client's aquarium conditions are recorded in a database each time the aquarium is serviced. This way we can monitor changes to your aquarium and can catch problems before they arise. Cleaning the viewing glass and regular water changes during maintenance is only half of the service. We also clean the filtration system, test water parameters, monitor and dispense necessary additives required during routine service, replace outdated or expired light bulbs and malfunctioning technical equipment. A report of the overall condition of the progress of the marine environment as well as pointing out small problems that may become larger concerns later, are also key points of the service to our clients.

What do you charge for a maintenance service?

Charges for maintenance services depend largely on the size and location of the aquarium. Difficulties in accessing the technical filtration system, type of aquarium setup (saltwater or freshwater systems) and also the system design is taken into consideration.

Most maintenance companies charge by the gallon size. Other companies charge by the hour. Aquareef charges a flat rate for maintenance with supplies and additives as extras. For a realistic price quote for your maintenance and recommended frequency, consult with Aquareef.

Do you maintain freshwater aquariums as well?

Yes we also maintain and service freshwater aquariums. Take a look at some of our client's freshwater aquariums on our website. Although our main service is marine fish and live corals, we also provide freshwater fish, supplies and live plants available.

Are there any other services you provide?

We are a full service aquarium service business, offering a complete line of fish food (including high quality dry and frozen fish food) and supplies for all your marine aquarium needs.

At Aquareef, we offer a complete line of high quality aquarium supplies. All supplies we have in stock are the same as what we use in our client's aquariums and in our own. Do you have a particular product in mind? Ask us - although we not regularly stock the item you're looking for, we may have access to it.

Our livestock consists mainly of saltwater fish, invertebrates, live corals and live rock. Freshwater livestock is available as well and is usually quarantined for a minimum of 2 weeks before being sold.

How far do you travel for maintenance and are there traveling fees?

Aquareef Aquarium Design is located in Campbell River British Columbia. Maintenance, consultation and house calls in Courtenay and Comox BC are available with no extra traveling fees.

Who does the maintenance service?

Ken and Linny, owners of Aquareef Aquarium Design perform the maintenance services. If any problems arises you will never hear "I don't know, you'll need to talk to my manager". Decisions are made quickly and resolved satisfactorily. Period!
